Momentum Transportation, an Award-Winning Landstar Agent, honors veterans and extends community service across Jacksonville and beyond

Field of Honor Sponsor Banner

As we enter the holiday season, Momentum Transportation, an award-winning Landstar Agent, continues its legacy of giving back. This year, we are proud to be a sponsor of the Field of Honor® in our local community of Jacksonville, Florida, where members of our staff and community honor heroes this Veteran’s Day weekend. Field of Honor, through its “The Healing Field ” initiative is a stirring display of 360 flags honoring servicemen and women from the First Coast community who gave their lives during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The opening ceremony for this year’s display will be at 10 am Eastern on Friday, November 10, 2023. Following the ceremony, the field will open to the community. All service members from Jacksonville’s five local counties who sacrificed their lives in these two wars will be listed by name in the program.

Earlier this month, Randy, one of Landstar’s outstanding Business Capacity Owners, drove the truck that brought this year’s flags to The Healing Field site in Jacksonville. Randy’s son, a beloved veteran, has served multiple tours of duty in the US Army. “It is with pride and respect that I honor my son and so many other veterans who have served our country so incredibly well, “ says Randy. “On behalf of the entire team at Momentum Transportation, we are incredibly thankful to Randy, his son and his entire family for their commitment, dedication and partnership to The Healing Field effort,” says David Hoppens, VP of Sales and Marketing at Momentum.

How You Can Support the Field of Honor®

Flags can be purchased in memory or honor of service members who called Northeast Florida their home. Proceeds from the Field of Honor® will benefit the Jacksonville Naval Museum (JAX Naval) and the Exchange Club of Jacksonville FL. This moving display is a gift made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers.

Funds raised will support both the USS Orleck, a decommissioned Gearing – Class destroyer, run by Jax Naval, and the establishment of a Naval Museum by the organization. The USS Orleck was launched in 1945 and was nicknamed the “Grey Ghost of the Vietnam Coast”, netting an astonishing 14 battle stars during the war. The Orleck also received 4 battle stars during the Korean War. In addition, funds will support the Jacksonville Exchange Club, a local service organization that awards money to veterans causes, supports youth programs to help young people reach their full potential, and works to prevent child abuse.

We Care About Our Community

The Field of Honor is just one of the many ways Momentum Transportation, an award-winning Landstar Agent, gives back. We also partner with Farm Share each year to help families in need with nutritious food for the holidays. In 2022, Momentum filled 340 “Bags of Bounty” with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four. Farm Share, a nonprofit food bank, provided the main protein for each meal, while Momentum contributed 13 side items, such as yams, corn, gravy and stuffing. This allowed families — who might not know where their next meal is coming from — to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal.

Momentum has a long history of supporting our local community through a long list of organizations and missions, including:

  • Participating in the annual Donna 5K Walk/Run
  • Sponsoring the University of North Florida’s Collegiate golf tournament at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, which supports women’s golf from 17 colleges throughout the country;
  • Sponsoring the Gator Bowl Award of Excellence Scholarship, which provides four senior student-athletes $2,500 for use at any accredited University or College
  • Being the title sponsor for the Rahm Golf Tournament benefiting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital;
  • Sponsoring Guns N Hoses, a Police Athletic League (PAL) event that benefits children and their families;
  • Helping homeless pets enjoy the outdoors, by gathering employees to walk rescue animals at the Humane Society;
  • Being part of the day of service sponsored by Unilever, #DoGoodWithUnilever;
  • And, participating regularly in the local blood drives.
